Update: first two listings are dropped. The shows are going on, but we can’t make it, had a little booking snafu. We’ll see you in March!

So here’s what we’ve got coming up:

  • Fri Feb 12th – Maxwell’s – Hoboken, NJ BF Not Playing – Thomas Francis Takes His Chances album release, presented by DJ Dancing Tony! This is going to be excellent, chaotic fun.
  • Tue Feb 16th – Lucky 7 – Jersey City BF Not Playing – Our audition for future nights at Lucky’s on the weekend. I love this bar. It’s small and it gets packed, and it’s cheap, and Zac works there, and I miss playing in Jersey City.
  • Fri Mar 5th – The Delancey – NYC – Knocks From the Underground is throwing two nights of shows at The Delancey on the 5th and 6th to mark their one-year anniversary! We’re on Friday with The Press and The Nightlights!
  • Fri Mar 12th – Matchless – Brooklyn – This is the first show we’ve put on where we get to pick the other acts, at one of my most favorite places. Confirmed on the bill are our friends I Am the Heat and The Courtesy Tier.
  • Sat Mar 13th – Asbury Lanes – Asbury Park, NJ – Yes, it’s back to the Jersey shore (from whence Sarah and I come), for a real head-spinner of a show with I Am the Heat, Frozen Gentlemen, and Una Pong. We’ll basically be the only sorta local band on the bill!

A lot of people be asking me: “why you so crazy?” But, seriously. We haven’t played any gigs since mid-December and won’t again until mid February. We are writing new material, together, the next record. One year ago we were just throwing tunes at each other and learning them in a hurry, tuning along the way. Now we’ve actually arrived at some ways of working together that are yielding more intricate, thoughtful music. Which is not to say navel-gazing, at all, a lot of it is hold-onto-your-hat-type stuff.

So, a bunch of shows, all in a row, and don’tcha miss it, don’t you miss it! Some of you just about missed it! Because we’ll be laying low again in April; if we play any shows then, they will be out-of-town (fingers crossed). So, if you miss out in the coming month or two, we’ll back around again in May!

In the realm of Friends and Family, our man Daniel Schlett (recorded/engineered/mixed our album Optimist) has started playing keys for Soft Black, a new Brooklyn group that’s getting a lot of attention of late. They’ll be playing Billy O’Brien’s Tue Night at Wonder Bar in Asbury Park tomorrow night, January 19th! You should go see them and say, “hi” to Billy and Danny for us. Tell them Ben Franklin sent you.
