The blog of the band Ben Franklin from NY and NJ

Thanks 2010

2010 treated Ben Franklin pretty well. We recorded an EP, added a guitarist, had the CIA kidnap two member’s of our drummer’s former band, got smashed in North Carolina, got some t-shirts made, and made tons of new friends, including some cool dudes at Killing Horse who are helping us press Urgency onto vinyl.

The EP was recorded with a different approach than our debut. This was completely DIY, in our basement, and we really took our time, revisiting parts and making sure we are happy with all aspects of it. Adam Copeland is not only an amazing engineer, but as a guitarist he rounds off the group nicely, adding not only sweet harmonies but also an uncanny ability to connect the rhythm section to Billy’s wails (on the guitar).

Being approached by a small record label to help us press and promote this release is really a good start in an attempt to get us out of the Busch League, but clearly there is a ton of work to do and money to spend to get on better bills at bigger venues. NPR claims that we won’t be able to quit our day jobs, though. Which is why Sarah is now moonlighting with Lez Zepplin.

We have a great show calendar coming up, including a party for Killing Horse anniversary at Maxwell’s and our record release at Cake Shop, with the Press, I am the Heat and the Gay Blades. We also have a whole set’s worth of new material, including this fine tune, with a video courtesy of Atomic Couch Media.

According to Wikileaks there will also be a leak of our title track online soon, so make sure to check your favorite 24 hour infotainment news channel for updates on that.

Like I said 250 years ago, “Be always at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let each new year find you a better man.” Thanks 2010.
